Lee Newell- Managing Partner

I am one one of the founding Partners at Bardells LLP which was established in 2009. My aim was to fill a gap in the market by establishing a proactive legal practice which took a far more commercial approach to work-place disputes.

In my legal career I have been very successful in helping many organisations in the public and private sector to transform their approach to profitable employee relations. My work has been pivotal in securing positive change, significantly reducing numbers of grievances, disciplinary hearings and employment tribunal claims. I have also helped organisations redress the balance in heavily unionised environments.

I have worked in private practice and for Companies as in-house adviser/advocate which gives me a fairly unique insight to the issues, challenges and problems faced by HR, managers and what it can feel like to be the employee. I firmly believe it is important to see things from all sides.  I have appeared in the Employment Tribunal (ET) and Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT).

I am an experienced litigator, advocate and mediator. I firmly believe that communication is preferable to litigation. I have advised HR Practitioners and line managers on a range of contentious and non contentious matters including discrimination, dismissal, flexible working, parental leave & other rights etc. I have also been instructed to advise and provide hands-on support on business restructures and TUPE transfers. I have also advised on numerous mergers & acquisitions (purchase value 50K to 550 million) and been engaged in, and led, various business-turnarounds.

Fundamentally, my advice has resulted in significant cost savings for my client and prevented employment tribunal claims and/or hearings. You will not find a long client list on our website. I believe that client relationships are sensitive and confidential but, with their very kind permission, I can say that I advised a ‘joint’ department’ of the House of Commons and House of Lords.

I also mentor HR Practitioners who aspire to Board-level positions and do the same with managers and business leaders who aspire to build high-value businesses with high performing teams and cultures.
